There is an art to finding unique gifts for women. My dear friend Candy, who died of ovarian cancer back in 2003, was a master at it. She was forever finding cute funky gifts for those of us who were blessed to be in her circle of friends. She never seemed to forget a passing comment we had made about something we liked or wished we had. It always made us each feel so special.
Unfortunately this is not a talent I am good at. I tend to have a memory that lasts exactly 3 minutes and can’t seem to remember details! I think that’s why when I was continually faced with wanting unique gifts for women in my life I resorted to creating my own.
Being an artist, it was natural for me to create unique gifts for women in my life by getting out my paints and paper and going to work. Since I had developed the Wonderful Wacky Women characters so many years previous, I started by expanding that the line first and branched out from there. To make these unique gifts for women, I simply thought about all the wonderful wacky women in my life and how they had touched my heart. Whether they were experiencing a tragedy or a triumph in their lives, I wanted to acknowledge it and so that became my inspiration. For a friend that was going through Breast Cancer, I made “She Who Wears a Pink Ribbon.” For a friend going through a divorce I created “She Who is a Survivor” For a friend who wonder a quilting contest, I made “She Who Loves to Quilt”
I went on to make these unique gifts for women even more special by including a short poem like story that echoed the message of the art piece. It wasn’t long before my friends were requesting and suggesting new ideas for me to create. Before I knew it, a whole new line was born.
This process repeated itself several times. For example, it was when I wanted some unique gifts for women who lived in coastal and beachy areas that I created Divas of the Deep. These wacky women, donning fin-like tails and nautical attire filled a mermaid niche that was being requested by some friends. When another group of friends wanted some unique gifts for women in their lives that pertained to their children, I created the Kwirky Kids line as well. They are patterned after the same wacky women characters that became so popular but instead they are what I call “iity-bitty-baby-wacky-wannabes”
It is an honor for me to share these enchanted characters with you through my website at www.suzytoronto.com . I hope they touch you as well as those you share them with as you search for unique gifts for women in your life.
