The Gathering of the Goddesses
The Gathering of the Goddesses is sweeping the nation. Created by artist and author Suzy Toronto, the movement is literally gathering numbers daily. Dedicated to inspire, uplift and empower all women, Suzy encourages women to embrace the rich relationships that surround them.
Toronto, a 50-ish, curly haired, self proclaimed Wonderful Wacky Woman, and coincidently author of a book by the same name, emphasizes “The Gathering of the Goddesses" is not about women getting together, wearing obnoxious clothes and getting drunk. Quite the contrary. It’s about empowering the full potential of who and what we are and supporting each other on our journey.” She explains “Although we are ordinary women, we have all had moments of being truly extraordinary. It’s about building on those moments and at the same time have a great time. The joy is found in the journey itself and the Gathering of the Goddesses help each other to realize that..”
Using humor to get her point across, the Gathering of the Goddesses is a call out from one of her more famous pieces of art in her Tingle Heart collection. All of her art is accompanied by and uplifting prose like story. The Gathering of the Goddesses piece reads as follows:
It is a known fact that goddesses attract other goddesses.
You know, “Birds of a feather….”
But the really cool thing is that quite often
they flock together long before they reach
their true lofty status of “Goddess”
giving their friendships
the depth that only time can give.
By the time they become goddesses,
they’d been gathering together for so long,
giving, sharing, loving and caring
that they know intimate details
about each others lives…
making their bond unbreakable.
Whether shopping, going out to lunch,
lounging over pedicure or sitting on the beach,
the gathering of goddesses can’t be missed.
Just listen for the buzz of friendship,
the tears of shared sorrows
and the fits of irrepressible laughter.
You’ll know in a minute,
you’re in the presence of greatness.

The groups started out, unofficially, with women writing to Toronto, sharing the stories of the sisterhoods they embraced. Before long, women were asking Toronto how they could register their group and align themselves with her. After much prodding, she added a direct link to her already popular website and the organization has taken off and grown. With more groups registering everyday, the movement is growing fast. It’s worth a trip to her website to check out the fun art, the wacky stories and whatever you do, don’t miss the Gathering of the Goddesses page.
